The Problem
Does your pipeline fulfill its functional purpose? Are flaws or anomalies hampering your day-to-day operations? Do you know the expected remaining lifetime of your asset?
NDT Global helps you find the answers you need.
The Solution
Using our full suite of state-of-the-art robots, our experts perform an inline inspection (ILI), followed by a detailed assessment of your pipeline’s integrity. Using specialized software, we meticulously analyze data we procure about metal loss, cracks, geometric faults and other irregularities, and compile in-depth assessments and fitness-for-purpose studies. We then tailor a report to address your pipeline. This accurate and up-to-date insight into its structural integrity gives you a reliable basis for prioritizing maintenance tasks and investments. Such accurate awareness of flaws and anomalies directs mission-critical decisions and helps you optimize costs.
Fitness For Purpose
Fitness-for-purpose (FFP) analysis is an engineering study NDT Global uses to determine the capacity of a pipeline under current and future operating conditions. FFP is a fundamental tool of any integrity management program.
FFP analysis assesses the integrity of pipelines with anomalies that may have originated during manufacturing, construction, or service, such as metal loss, geometric deformations, laminations, cracks and crack-like features, all of which are detectable with our ultrasonic inline inspection robots. NDT Global combines the most advanced assessment methods such as finite element analysis with high-resolution inline inspection data to precisely assess anomalies while removing the need for conservatism.
Once we detect and measure the anomalies, we calculate the remaining resistance of the pipeline. Results are expressed in terms of failure pressure, safe pressure, or stress level. The assessment results are documented in a technical report that describes the evaluation parameters, the type and dimensions of the analyzed anomalies, methodologies used, results, conclusions, and recommendations. This accurate-to-within-millimeters answer also helps you avoid unnecessary repairs or pressure restrictions.
Immediate Integrity
An immediate integrity assessment determines the current pipeline condition (at the date of the latest ILI).
For all reported anomalies, the safe working pressure Psafe is calculated and compared to the selected assessment pressure (e.g. pipeline design pressure, MAOP, or MOP). This allows a priority-based ranking of all anomalies. Critical features with Psafe below the assessment pressure are identified and suitable remedial actions are recommended.
Feature Growth
A feature growth assessment determines the risk to your pipeline by comparing the growth of corrosion or crack anomalies across two or more inspection runs.
In a feature growth assessment, our experts analyze inspection data from several inspections over time to determine if the features show growth or if new anomalies have developed. The depth-sizing accuracies of the inspection robots are considered to deduce statistical significance of corrosion and crack growth. A growth assessment delivers detailed information about growth rates and new corrosion or crack anomalies so you can better understand the remaining life of your pipeline. These results also serve as a basis for future integrity assessments, re-inspection intervals, and long-term maintenance expenses.
Future Integrity & Fatigue Life
Mechanisms such as corrosion and fatigue may pass an immediate integrity assessment, yet then grow to critical mass during regular pipeline operations. NDT Global compares the results of consecutive inspections to determine corrosion or fatigue growth rates and assess the impact of that change on the future integrity of your pipeline through a future integrity or fatigue life assessment. NDT Global will use the results of a Future Integrity or Fatigue Life Assessment to predict the estimated remaining life of your pipeline and deliver specific, accurate and necessary corresponding repair dates for all anomalies.
Pipeline Movement
Displacement caused by natural phenomena such as ground movement and elevation changes compromises a pipeline’s integrity. Excessive tensile strain can cause a direct rupture, while excessive compressive strain can cause local wrinkling and often buckling, resulting in lost product and environmental damage.
NDT Global’s Atlas INS is the most reliable means of measuring pipeline shape changes caused by external forces. It uses high-resolution data acquisition with leading-edge software products to locate a potential high-strain area with discriminating field bends in a single inspection.
Periodic Atlas INS inspections can pinpoint potential displacement locations by aligning two pipeline assessments and detecting slight (≥0.10%) changes over time: odometer distance adjustment and direct run-on-run comparison of curvatures and strain. Our experts highlight the pipeline displacement between the two INS inspections by comparing the vertical and horizontal strain at the same points on the pipe, allowing you to make in-real-time decisions to safeguard your pipeline and reduce costs.
Dent Strain
This assessment allows operators to recieve the most accurate input related to pipe dents and localized strain. Insights show material performance in deformed zones, allowing a better measure of the dent severity. Data acquired from the ultrasonic geometry robot offers the most accurate information related to pipe and dent geometric shape and strain calculations are based on 3D data.
Our Ultrasonic Tools
Eclipse UCx
NDT Global’s Eclipse UCx enhanced sizing methodology sizes the full range of crack depths up to 100% wall thickness for higher-precision inspection, providing 20% more accurate data for better informed decisions about the safe and efficient operation of your pipeline assets. Enhanced sizing is just one example of the ongoing research and development NDT Global conducts and which is reflected in our core values: Accuracy and Precision, Improvement through Innovation and Passion for Excellence.
